FUNDING
ESCoP Family Care Grants
The Family Care Grants are designed to support conference attendees who incur extra family care expenses - above and beyond their regular family care expenses - in order to attend the ESCoP conference. Examples of these expenses include extra daycare, babysitting services, elder care, or care for a family member with disabilities or severe illness. These may arise either in the attendee’s country of residence or at the conference location.

ESCoP offers up to 500 euro per grant to reimburse such extra care expenses, with funding available for up to 10 attendees (costs covered by this grant will be reimbursed after the conference based on receipts presented by the participant within a timeframe that will be communicated to the winners in the notification letter).

Eligibility
All attendees of the ESCoP conference who are ESCoP members and indicate both financial need and additional care costs due to attending the conference are eligible to apply.

Application Process
Applications should be submitted in .pdf format to the ESCoP Secretary and should include the following:
-
Submitted/accepted ESCOP abstract – Abstract acceptance is a prerequisite for being awarded the grant and will be checked by the committee before the decision. Recipients who do not attend the conference will forfeit their grant.
-
A one-page motivation letter that must include: (1) the applicant’s name, institution, position (e.g., PhD student, postdoc, senior researcher, professor), and ESCOP membership status, as well as (2) a statement of financial need along with a description of extra family care expenses due to attending the conference (above and beyond regular care expenses).
Deadlines will align with the abstract submission schedule and will be announced before the conference.
Timeline for the 2025 call: applications should be submitted by June 30, 2025. Decisions will be communicated on a rolling basis.
Travel Funding
The ESCoP Travel Funding is a grant aimed at supporting graduate students to attend the conferences organized by the Society. In each conference year, the society aims to award up to 15 grants to support active participation of graduate students in ESCoP Conferences. The travel grant funding should be used to cover conference fee and other expenses. The base value of the grant is €500, but an additional €500 can be requested by students from not-high income or developing countries (see list of eligible countries in the last subsection of this page) or that can demonstrate financial needs. Preference will be given to ESCOP associate members.

The application should be sent in .pdf format to the ESCoP Secretary. The document should contain the following:
-
A 1-page CV detailing the applicant’s name, contact information, institution, ESCOP membership status, country, thesis supervisor, thesis topic, and a short summary of relevant research experience (150 words, particularly detailing efforts to do quality research, e.g., adherence to open science practices). The CV should explicitly include a sentence indicating if the student wants to be considered for the additional funds due to being from a not-high income country or financial needs (please also consider sending us any supporting documents that you deem appropriate to substantiate your claim).
-
Submitted ESCOP abstract (and all relevant details such as title and authors and it is part of a symposium) – abstract acceptance is a prerequisite for being awarded the grant and it will be checked by the program committee before the decision.
-
An extended research summary (800-words limit + a maximum of 2 Figures or Tables) that explains your research in more detail and how it fits within the topics of ESCoP.
-
A networking plan (2-page, single-spaced, 12-point font) with a summary of a networking plan and its relevance to the applicant's research program. A networking plan is to identify one or two target senior scientists that the applicant has arranged to meet during the conference. It should describe specific goals to be accomplished during these meetings with the targeted scientist/s (e.g., develop a collaboration, exchange research ideas, receive input on experiments, a grant proposal or a manuscript) and applicants are expected to have contacted them before the conference.
Deadlines depend on abstract submission schedule and will be announced before the ESCoP Conference. The Committee will examine the proposals within a month of the abstract submission deadline.
