ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Submission Guidelines

Each participant will be allowed to submit only one contribution as a presenter (either a symposium talk, regular talk, blitz-talk, or poster). Being a chair or presenting in a pre-conference satellite event does not count to this limit. This also does not exclude the possibility of being a non-presenting co-author on multiple submissions.

Abstracts should include the standard elements, namely, Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. These sections do not need to be explicitly labeled. Please make sure your abstract contains sufficiently detailed descriptions of the methods and the obtained results.

 

Symposia

The call for the submission of symposia will open on 17 October 2022 until 20 December 2022. Decision on the symposia submissions will be made available on February 2023. Not-accepted symposia proposals can be submitted as individual contributions for talks or posters.

Symposia offer the opportunity to highlight new or emerging ideas and advance research topics. Contributions in a symposium focus on a common topic. This is an ideal opportunity to share recent findings, present opposing points of view, and discuss solutions with colleagues. Symposia are structured as 5 related talks that are given by active researchers from different universities/countries. Please consider gender balance, as well as university and region diversity in building your symposium panel. Each symposium talk should be 15 minutes long with 5 minutes for questions. Symposia sessions will last for 1h40min.

There will be room for 30-40 symposia. Because symposia make up nearly half of the conference, ESCOP cannot give fee waivers for them (this includes the organizers of symposiums). All presenters in accepted symposia are expected to register for the meeting and to have their ESCOP membership fees up-to-date (https://www.escop.eu/).

 

Submission Requirements

Symposium proposals must include:

(a) Title of the symposium (max. 150 characters with spaces);
(b) Abstract of the symposium (max. 1250 characters with spaces, ca. 150-200 words);
(c) Chair/s: name, affiliation, email address, and ESCOP membership status
(d) Symposium keywords (max. 5)
(e) Themes (select a maximum of 3): Aging, Attention, Bilingualism, Child Development, Cognitive Modeling, Emotion, Executive Functions, Higher Cognitive Functions, Language, Learning, Memory, Motivation, Motor Cognition, Neural Measures, Numerical Cognition, Perception, Statistics and Methodology.

Then for each of the five contributions:

(f) Title (max. 150 characters with spaces);
(g) Authors: name, affiliation and email address
(h) Presenter: name, affiliation, email address, and ESCOP membership status
(i) abstract (max. 1250 characters with space, ca. 150-200 words)

 

Talks, Blitz-Talks and Poster Contributions

The call for the submission of abstracts for talks, blitz-talks and posters will open on 20 January 2023 until the 31 March 2023. Decision on the submissions will be made available on 15 May 2023.

ESCOP 2023 will include the following types of contributions:

Regular Talk: A regular oral presentation consisting of a 15-min talk + 5 mins for questions. This type of contribution is ideal for multi-study papers or to present results of large projects. Regular talks will be grouped in sessions with 4 or 6 talks, preferably addressing similar topics.

Blitz-talk: This year, ESCOP will include the option to present blitz-talks. Blitz-talks are concise contributions. This format is ideal to present the results of a single study, new data for discussion, replication studies, or multi-studies that are easy to follow. Each presenter will have 5-min talk + 5 min for questions. Blitz-talks should be accompanied by slides. Blitz-talk sessions will consist of 12 presentations (duration: 1h20).

Poster: Poster sessions will last 1h20. Posters are ideal to summarize research in a concise and visually attractive way. They also provide ample time for one-to-one discussions. Posters should be prepared with a 3-5 min presentation round in mind. Posters should be prepared in A0 size, portrait format (1180 mm height x 841 mm width).

Review Process

Submissions will be reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee. The main criteria for acceptance will be the scientific quality of the proposals / submissions, followed by the diversity of the topics (to ensure an even representation of themes in the conference) and geographic representation. For symposia, we will also consider the diversity of speakers (different universities and geographic locations) as well gender balance of the proposed panel. Finally, preference will be given to ESCOP members.

Occasionally, the Scientific Committee may recommend that a symposium submission be considered for regular/individual talks rather than a symposium. If this is the case, the chair will be notified of this recommendation, and each author will be offered the opportunity to submit individual presentations as talks.
